Office Clearance Bethnal Green - Health and Safety Policy
This policy sets out the commitment of our office clearance and rubbish removal teams to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees, contractors and the public during commercial and residential tidy-ups and removals. The purpose of this document is to define safe working practices for all aspects of an office clearance service, including waste handling, transport and disposal, with an emphasis on risk control, training and continuous improvement. Wherever operations are undertaken, staff must apply these standards to maintain safe working conditions and ensure compliance with relevant safety obligations.The scope of this policy encompasses all activities associated with office clearances, commercial clearance projects and general rubbish collection tasks carried out by our teams. It applies to permanent employees, temporary operatives and third-party contractors engaged in duties such as furniture removal, paper shredding, electronic waste handling and site tidy-ups. The policy provides a framework for managing hazards, recording incidents and meeting statutory duties related to workplace safety without excessive local detail or franchise-specific legal statements.
Policy Objectives and Commitments
Our main objectives are to:- prevent work-related injury and ill health during office or commercial clearance operations;
- ensure safe handling and segregation of waste streams to reduce environmental and health risks;
- provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision;
- maintain equipment and vehicles in a safe condition for rubbish removal tasks.
All staff and contractors have clearly defined responsibilities. Management will ensure that risk assessments are conducted, that safe systems of work are developed and that adequate resources are allocated to implement controls. Supervisors must enforce compliance with procedures and provide on-the-job coaching for safe manual handling and lifting techniques during office clear-outs. Operatives are required to follow instructions, use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) and report hazards promptly.
Risk Assessment and Control Measures
Comprehensive risk assessments must be carried out for each job, considering hazards such as manual handling, slips, trips and falls, sharps, hazardous materials (including batteries and chemical containers), traffic on site and vehicle loading/unloading. Control measures include, but are not limited to:- use of appropriate lifting equipment and trolleys;
- safe stacking and securement of loads;
- PPE such as gloves, high-visibility clothing and safety footwear;
- clear segregation of recyclable, hazardous and general waste.
Training and competence are essential. All operatives must receive induction training that covers hazard recognition, manual handling, vehicle safety and waste segregation procedures. Role-specific refresher training must be scheduled regularly, and records maintained. Contractors engaged for specialist disposal or hazardous waste handling must provide evidence of competence and appropriate insurance before commencing work.
Site setup and vehicle safety are critical elements of a safe office removal or rubbish collection. Before work begins, a site survey should identify access routes, parking arrangements, potential obstructions and emergency exits. Vehicles used for clearance work must be maintained to manufacturer standards, fitted with appropriate restraints, and checked daily for roadworthiness. Operatives must follow safe loading techniques and ensure that loads do not exceed vehicle capacity or obscure visibility.
Emergency procedures and incident reporting form an integral part of this policy. Any accident, near miss or unsafe condition must be reported immediately to a supervisor and recorded in the incident log. First aid arrangements should be in place appropriate to the size and nature of the operation, and all employees must be aware of emergency contacts and evacuation routines. Investigation of incidents will identify root causes and lead to corrective actions designed to prevent recurrence.
Monitoring, review and continuous improvement are ongoing responsibilities. Regular audits of our office clearance and rubbish removal operations will check compliance with this policy and identify opportunities to enhance safety performance. Performance indicators such as training completion rates, incident frequency and corrective action closure rates will be used to measure progress. The policy will be reviewed at least annually or after significant operational changes to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Every member of staff involved in clearance work is expected to contribute to a culture of safety and to share ideas that improve procedures and reduce risks. This policy is applicable to all office and commercial clearance activities undertaken by our teams and should be adhered to as part of contractual and operational obligations.
